Known as Couto Misto, or Couto Mixto in Galician, this small territory was located on the border with Montalegre, between Portugal and Spain, in the current province of Ourense.
The Couto Misto was an independent microstate that for more than nine centuries was part of the history of Portugal
and Spain. 150 years ago it had 27km2, its own rules, and was able to receive refugees from both countries.
